ARBUCKLE'S FORT
THE EXCAVATION: [ OCTOBER 4, 1997]

greenbrier historical society

Day 12

Our last day at Arbuckle's Fort was spent completing the mapping and measuring of the foundation feature of the cabin and continuing excavation of the forge.

Archaeologist David McBride measures the southeast side of the foundation and sketches all components of the feature. While Kim McBride measures the length of the foundation base at 18 feet. Shown in this picture is another side of the cabin foundation feature

We hope that you've enjoyed visiting with us during the excavation at Arbuckle's Fort. The past two weeks have been exciting for us all. One day soon, perhaps, we'll be able to return to Arbuckle's Fort and further examine the evidence of our past.

We leave you with two photographs: a photograph of our 1997 excavation team and a last close-up of the brass plaque commemorating the 18th century beginnings of Arbuckle's Fort. Until the next time, we thank you for visiting with us and for your support.
