Anthony Carter Pop-Up Exhibit Coming February 2021

This February the upstairs landing of the North House will be home to a pop-up exhibit in honor of Anthony Carter, a freed Black businessman of Lewisburg.

Carter's journey from his emancipation in 1837 to his death in 1844, lends as many questions as answers.
The exhibit will follow the progress of newly emancipated Anthony Carter.

How did he re-invent himself from a manual laborer to a cobbler for some of Lewisburg's most prominent families?

Join us as we explore the man that was Anthony Carter - husband, father, cobbler, and landowner.

Come see artifacts on display such as Anthony's daybooks, a way of keeping accounts during the time, and an authentic cobbler's bench and tools'.
